Acts 1 - God's in the Business of Details

I am reading in the book of Acts right now and learning so much! For one, I never knew that Luke wrote this book. I love that God purposed him to write it because Luke is such a detail-oriented man. I never knew that the 11 disciples needed to fill the spot of Judas so that their number would be 12 again. And I still haven't completely figured out why 12- although Bryan told me it might be related to the 12 tribes of Israel, which makes sense. Also in Acts 1:20, Peter quotes Psalm 109:8 as the scripture confirmation that they needed to fill the 12th spot when it says "Let another take his office."  So here we are in Acts1:15 and the disciples have narrowed the 12th position down to two possibilities: Joseph called Barsabas and Matthias. So (vs 24) they prayed "You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place." In verse 26 'they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias.'

I read this and wondered what these 2 men were thinking when the lots were being cast! God is so purposeful in everything He does. He fulfills every prophecy. He completes every sunrise. He navigated humanity with perfection.  And He will complete everything He starts in us. As imperfect humans, we start so many things that we don't see through to the finish. But not our Heavenly Father. He sees every job through to the end with a complete purpose in mind.

Hebrews 12:2 ..."let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith..."
Philippians 1:6 "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

Selah!
