Tuesday's Tool - Decluttering Holiday Themed Stuff

Yes I am revisiting this one (and probably will throughout the year!) because decluttering is so important. Why? Well for one, scripture says that God is not a God of disorder, but of peace (1 Cor. 14:33). And as we celebrate this season of peace, let's pursue an orderly peace in our homes.

I don't know about you, but as I began pulling out my Christmas decorations, I realized that I have a lot more "stuff" sitting in boxes than I am willing to actually display. My first inclination was to attempt to find a surface to display everything. But then the Holy Spirit gave me a picture in my head of what my home would look like if I displayed every Christmas decoration that I owned (And it looked like one of those 'What's Wrong With This Picture' games in kids magazines!!!)  So at that moment I realized that it was time to let someone else be blessed with some of my holiday decor!

I know that most of us have adorned our homes, trees, yards and doors with Christmas decorations. So as the season wraps up and we begin taking down all those beautiful adornments, lets DECLUTTER and get rid of some of it.  Don't waste time packing it all back up. Find an empty box, label it with the name of your favorite thrift store, and fill it up. It absolutely will bless someone who may not be able to afford new Christmas decorations. And hey, it's all about the giving, isn't it? Plus your husband will love the fact that he doesn't have to haul endless amounts of stuff up the attic ladder!

And last, I know that I'm revisiting this idea right smack dab in the middle of the Christmas season, but while your drinking apple cider by the fireplace listening to Hark the Herald Angels Sing, look around and think about the items that you can let go of. Make a mental plan. Then when you begin to take it all down, you're prepared to depart with certain items. And remember that you are creating peace in your home and blessing those around you!

When we moved in June, I went through my Christmas boxes and decluttered. Still and yet, when we pulled them out of the attic this year, I realized there's still more to part with. I had to laugh when you talked about what your house would look like if you put everything up. I've said the exact same thing... nothing has a theme; it's just a bunch of stuff. So, i'll take your good advice post-Christmas!

I didn't allow myself to purchase any new decorations this year, which was really hard when I hit the Hallmark store after Thanksgiving. I love those singing snowmen!

Have a great evening. My husband took all 4 kids (21, 19, 10, 8) out to dinner, and I'm enjoying a few moments of quiet. Hope you can find some as well.

haha! Hallmark does have some great Christmas decor! I didn't buy anything either! Besides why buy anything when the decorations grow out of the sides of the storage boxes!!!

Great advice! I read it AFTER I packed the things away but lucky for me they have not made it to the attic just yet so I am going to casually go back through the boxes and get rid of a few things!
