Mardi Gras Parade Fun

Sunday we had the opportunity to ride on a float in a Mardi Gras parade in Port Arthur, Texas! Some of you wonder "what in the world is Mardi Gras?" Well sadly enough (this is a part of my cajun roots so I should know) I'm not exactly sure of the history behind Mardi Gras. But I know that the words Mardi Gras mean Fat Tuesday and that it starts officially this Tuesday. Woo woo! Anyway, the whole point of the parade is to throw bead necklaces to the people on the street as they yell "Beads, beads." So that is what we did and we had so much fun! Andrew, Sarah and Bryan were quite the bead throwers and Jamie managed to hit a few people, accidentally. Ellie even tossed a few necklaces off the float, but they usually rolled under the wheels of the trailor (sweet little arms don't throw very far!) My dad, sister (Tracie) and neice (Bailey) were also there which made it all the more fun. We are thankful for the invite from our friends Troy and Sarah and we hope to go again next year.

You can't comment on your own precious family...!! :) Just kidding!

Glad that you are on here...leave it to Mardi Gras to inspire your first post...! :) Seriously though, you don't know the roots of it?? My understanding is that it is one last hoorah before Ash Wednesday (the next day) which starts the Lenten season (very somber and sacrificing time ~ at least historically!) and preparation of our hearts for Easter and all that the Risen Lord has to offer. Very heathen tradition with French Catholic roots...check out this link for all the details! http://www.eastjeffersonparish.com/culture/MARDIGRA/HISTORY/history.htm

Anyway, if you are still reading be sure to check out our blog and shutterfly...
